I am sure we all have, at one time or another, but at the age of 55...?
In hind site I think that is exactly what I did, along with my husband, age 60...we ran away
from the hassle of life as we knew it. Leaving our grown children behind, we claimed our independence
in the country of Mexico, just outside of the small village Alamos, on top of a hill.
We became known as the “Gringos on the hill” by the local people because of all the construction workers we employed when we had built our Casa.
Even though we have returned to the United States, not a night passes that when I close my eyes and in the silence of my mind, I yearn for the sound of crickets.
I left my heart in Sonora, Mexico on top of my hill. Where I long to be again, yet I can never return in my physical form. This is the story of the end of my Shangri-La.
I have sent my spirit–soul to wait for me there.
